Time is a kid who is truly sublime.
He sees every tick and hears every chime.
The clock on the wall
Means nothing at all
Cause he never learned how to tell time.
Who is Zaman?
Zaman is Arabic and Persian. It means time.
And not just clocks-and-calendars time. Nah, he thinks bigger — Eras. Ages. The big stretches of history that come and go.
Long before clocks, people in the Middle East built other ways to catch time: sundials that tracked the sun's shadow and water clocks that dripped drop by drop, hour by hour.
But the best one was the astrolabe — a shiny brass tool that read the stars themselves. The astrolabe read a star's position in the sky to calculate time! Can you imagine telling someone you’ll meet them on the playground when a star is in a specific spot in the sky?
Maybe that’s why Zaman is always late. He forgot to read his astrolabe.
For the big kids
Zaman is a character, not a diagnosis. Zaman is not about time any more than a kid is about their hair color. Please introduce them as a neighbor.

Field notes
You could have met Zaman before anyone else
But you don't have to miss out on all the new residents and new hood construction.
Gossip loves keeping everyone up to date on what's happening. If you sign up for the field notes, she'd be happy to sit on the porch with you once a month.
She promises to write only once a month to start. She'd write more often, but we only have so much tea to spill.
