Gossip is just the news with a little Southern charm.

The verse
Gossip's a girl who loves all the news. She feels it's her duty to pick and to choose. She'll share every tale And exclaim without fail, "A good story is so hard to refuse!"
Who is Fama?

Fama is a goddess. No, seriously. Hear me out.

Fama was a Roman goddess who was the personification of fame, rumor, and gossip. She had countless feathers, a watchful eye, a buzzing tongue, a whispering lip, and a listening ear hidden beneath every single feather. She lived in a palace built on a high mountain peak with a thousand open windows and no doors, allowing her to catch every whisper circulating across the land, sea, and sky.

These days, Fama’s palace is a simple, yet cozy and inviting trailer on the outskirts of Dramaside. It sits right on the edge of her tea plantation.

When she was building her trailer, she insisted that the porch wrap all the way around the structure. You can’t extend Southern hospitality without a porch, a rocking chair, and plenty of tea to spill.

You see, gossip has a very interesting story. It comes from the Old English godsibb — meaning godparent. God as in the divine, sibb as in relation or kinship.

A godsibb was the person spiritually bound to you at baptism, someone so close they were family in all but blood. Over time, godsibb became gossip. The meaning shifted from trusted intimate to the conversations those intimates had.

Needless to say, Fama never met a godsibb she didn’t like. Well, until that godsibb went home, and another came to visit. If news comes across her path, it would be rude not to share it. It’s just good stewardship.

For the big kids

Fama is a character, not a diagnosis. Fama is not about gossip any more than a kid is about their hair color. Please introduce them as a neighbor.

Field notes
You could have met Fama before anyone else

But you don't have to miss out on all the new residents and new hood construction.

Gossip loves keeping everyone up to date on what's happening. If you sign up for the field notes, she'd be happy to sit on the porch with you once a month.

She promises to write only once a month to start. She'd write more often, but we only have so much tea to spill.

We only knock when it matters. No feed, no spam.
